CBSI and OmniGuide are committed to improving surgical outcomes with the precision of the BeamPath flexible CO2 laser scalpel.
One of the most significant challenges in the surgical removal of tumors in the brain and spine is the preservation of surrounding, healthy anatomy. Unlike other parts of the body, brain tissue does not regenerate, and therefore brain surgery presents an added measure of caution for surgeons.
In such a delicate environment, the CBSI neurosurgeons utlize OmniGuide’s CO2 laser fibers for enhanced levels of surgical precision. OmniGuide is the manufacturer of the world’s first flexible CO2 laser fiber. These fibers, based on the scientific breakthrough and research conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, introduce a novel, minimally invasive, and no-touch laser tool that enhances the surgeons’ precision.
Using OmniGuide, CBSI neurosurgeons are able to control the hand-held fiber like a pencil, to deliver energy in an accurate, pin-point, manner and remove diseased tissue layer by layer, sparing underlying healthy anatomy. The versatility of this enhanced laser instrument is controlled by the neurosurgeon and its no-touch operation leads to reduced tissue manipulation and damage. The flexibility of the fiber allows our neurosurgeons to take more minimally invasive surgical approaches and better access tough-to-reach anatomy.
